Ever wanted to see the difference between Query As A Web Service (QAAWS) and Flynet Web Service Generator?
In my earlier post, I showed how to create webservices using QAAWS. This software connects to the Business Objects platform to retrieve data, however the webservice is generated using BO Universes. The application is very intuitive and uses the same query-designer-window as in Web Intelligence making it easy to use for people familiar with the BO platform. However there are some limitations of using QAAWS. You only have the option to create one method per webservice, which may result in a very long list of web services, depending on the extent of use. Furthermore you cannot (Currently R2) create custom SQL in your query to apply advanced logic etc.
David Lai has created a post on Myxcelsius.com showing how to create web services using Flynet web service generator. This tool creates web services by connecting directly to the db tables. Furthermore it enables you to generate multiple methods per webservice.
There is also a video tutorial on the flynet website showing how to create a webservice using the WSG.
There is a new version of the WSG in beta trial at present,Basically, this Beta version of WSGd contains new functionality for handling cube queries and query result sets, as well as better query interpretation and safeguards to prevent naming clash errors.
Info will be posted on the http://www.flynetviewer.com website and also on the flynetviewer forum.
Rgds
Flynet
As I see it the other major benefit from using flynet is to avoid having to pay for Xcelsius viewer licenses!
